First Match of the 2025 Season
A Chilly Start but Warm Spirits!
Sunday marked the official start of the 2025 match calendar for Highbridge Angling Association, and what a way to kick things off! With a solid turnout of familiar faces and a few newcomers, the day began with the usual camaraderie and hot drinks at the Cabin — always a great way to catch up and ease into the competition.
As anglers checked in and the all-important draw was conducted, the buzz of friendly banter filled the air. It’s moments like these that remind us just how strong the community spirit is within HAA. Even those new to the scene were welcomed right into the fold.
Tough Conditions, Strong Performances
While the enthusiasm was high, the fishing itself proved a little tricky. Despite everyone putting their best skills to the test, bites were hard to come by. Most agreed that recent erratic weather — especially the cold nights and biting Easterly winds — had put the fish off their game.
But if there’s one thing our lads never lack, it’s optimism. Spirits stayed high throughout the match, and even the envelope presentations at the end came with a healthy dose of humour and good-natured teasing.
And the Results Are In…
- 1st Place: Dave Nash, Peg 9, 14lbs 15oz
- 2nd Place: Ron Stark, Peg 11, 11lbs
- Section Winner (Pegs 1–10): John Dursley, Peg 3, 9lbs 2oz
- Section Winner (Pegs 11–20): Pete Curnow, Peg 13, 10lbs 9oz
A huge well done to the winners, and hats off to everyone who braved the cold and gave it their best!
Smooth Setup & Club Support
This match also saw the debut of our new system for issuing keep nets and gear on sign-in. We’re pleased to say it ran without a hitch — a credit to the organisation by Kris, Dan, and Bryan. Their preparation behind the scenes made the whole day flow effortlessly. Thank you, gents!
Next Up: Two-Day Festival – April 19th & 20th
Don’t forget, our next outing is a two-day festival later this month. You can enter via the QR code, by messaging the club directly, or by calling 07784 518832. We’ll share more details as the event gets closer.
Here’s hoping for warmer weather and better catches next time around!
Thanks to all who took part — see you on the bank soon.
Tight lines, everyone!
